Root Canal Therapy - Consists of the removal of the pulp tissue (nerve) as well as any bacteria that may have contaminated the inside of your tooth. Following the completion of Root Canal Therapy, Dr. Winkler will place a temporary restoration in the top portion of your tooth. You will need to see your general dentist within 6 weeks to have the tooth permanently restored with a filling (usually referred to as a core) followed by a crown to protect your tooth.

Root canal re-treatment and Apicoectomy

Occasionally teeth that have been treated with root canal therapy may need to be re-treated . The previous root canal filling material is removed. The canals are cleaned, disinfected, and then re-filled with root canal filling material (Gutta-Percha). The tooth then needs to be restored with a permanent filling and a crown.

An apicoectomy is a surgical procedure that involves making a small incision in your gingival tissue exposing the underlying bone and tooth along with any infection.
